about

Your Mess is a collection of songs that have been in the works for a few years. The album consists of seven originals, which range in style from dreamy do-wap to aggressive rock to folky beach tunes to New Orleans durge, as well as four covers, including an Ellington Ballad and a rainy day, ethereal cover of a police tune. There are elements of jazz and blues, Latin, pop, Motown, classic rock, and ethereal, rainy day music.

Melissa collaborated songwriting and producing efforts with Toronto bassist Mark Cashion, more playful sound that tests an interesting balance of darker harmonies and more theatrical grooves, coupled with the singers signature soft and feminine word inflections.

“Your Mess” features an incredible cast of musicians: Nathan Hiltz and Eric St-Laurent on guitar, Mark Cashion on bass, Sly Juhas on drums and percussion, and has guest appearances by Michel DeQuevado on djembe and Kelsey McNulty on rhodes on one of the eleven tunes.
